Get ready for festival season

The Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Southern California last week informally marks the beginning of festival season throughout the United States.

And what I saw at the Coachella event truly sets the mood for summer dressing. This is the place to see and to be seen. Take note of all the maxi dresses, ripped jeans, cropped tops, gladiator sandals, hippie-chic jewelry and floppy brimmed hats worn by up-and-coming style makers such as Kendall Jenner.

Whether you are strolling through a farmers market, a music festival or wine tasting this summer, Get Dressed! Boutique has just what you need to enjoy these events with equal finesse.

Here is my checklist for attending an outdoors festival and tastefully turning heads:

1.  Make sure you bring your cellphone, camera, sunscreen and sunglasses. A roomy handbag or basket can handle these essentials. You might also want to keep a blanket and/or parasol handy.

2. Wear shoes that can go the distance yet make a wow statement. Groundhog sandals, which are made in Portugal, feel so incredibly good on the foot, yet they also look fashion-forward. Style meets comfort in our Shoe Salon, which also features footwear from AGL, All Black, Corso Como, Softino, Aquatalia and more.

3. Layer, layer, layer. Start with a base of a cotton knit or linen dress (our Italian Inizio collection supremely fits the bill), for instance, and then pack a lightweight jacket, shrug or shawl to add on if the temps dip. Make a Brightly Twisted scarf your constant companion as well.

4, Definitely nuture your inner boho-chic girl. Let your hair down, keep makeup to a minimum (a rosy glow is always appropriate), and be sweetly or boldly playful with accessories. Our Chan Luu jewelry is a natural for festival-going. The wrap bracelets are fantastic in a wide variety of colors, and Chan’s necklaces, too, speak the indie spirit. And don’t forget to see our latest jewelry arrivals from BuJu (made in Malibu) and Tat2 Designs (make in LA).

5.  Lastly, keep adequately hydrated. Drink lots of water, as Ohio may not be as hot as the Coachella Valley right now, but the Buckeye State is known for its scorcher days during the summer.
