Making Mother’s Day magical

Mother’s Day is May 10, and there are three ways to make the occasion special for all the mothers in your life — including sisters, moms, aunts, grandmothers, best friends and the ladies who have kindly mentored us professionally or personally.

Here are my three top ways to make all kinds of wonderful for my own mama this year:

  1. Indulge mom with something beautiful from Get Dressed! Boutique, whether it be a scarf in her favorite color (be sure to show her a new way to tie it) or a piece of jewelry to enhance what she already owns. My mama, who now lives in Colorado, will receive a bracelet from Chan Luu. I will consider her wardrobe needs as I make my selection. She’s retired now, so a little boho chic is in order as Mom has turned in the business suits or her career days for dressy Ts, yoga pants, flip flops and wide-brimmed sun hats. I am flying out to Colorado for her birthday next week, so she will be treated to an early Mother’s Day delight.
  2. Take your special lady out to her favorite restaurant or prepare her a meal fit for the queen that she already is. My menu for Norma Jean, the “Brady Bunch”-style mother of eight McMundt kids? Spicy Lemon Garlic Shrimp … a recipe straight from the kitchen of the Pioneer Woman (aka Ree Drummond) who knows how to make dinner delicious and effortless for almost any occasion. Choose, as I did, ingredients your mom loves. And if it’s a new recipe you want to debut on Mother’s Day, do a trial run first to make sure you like the end result. And, yes, Spicy Lemon Garlic Shrimp gets an astonishing two thumbs up in the GDB Fashion Scout test kitchen. To try out this yummy main course, visit www.thepioneerwoman.com. Serve this succulent seafood dish with a warm crusty baguette and a tossed green salad, and mama will be singing your culinary praise for weeks.
  3. Don’t forget to present a card that expresses all the truly glorious things mom does and the many ways she enriches your life and also lets mom know how much is loved. Check out the general theme cards we have at Get Dressed! Boutique that transcend just Mother’s Day and instead reflect appreciation, love and respect for the recipient any time of the year. Be sure to jot down how you feel and let your heart sweetly guide your pen and ultimately your words.

And don’t forget to start planning your Mother’s Day festivities now, as the holiday is just around the corner.
